Victorian Trail Walk

countryside walking

Choose to complete the whole trail or just one section.

The Victorian Trail concentrates mainly on aspects of the area's industrial heritage but will also give you the opportunity to sample its rural character.

The trail will guide you through two contrasting areas: to the north around Great Budworth and its mere filed paths and quiet country lanes will take you through a landscape of farmland, woods and pretty villages, while to the south the scene is very different. The present landscape has developed from subsidence caused by extensive brine pumping during the last century and the creation of lime waste lagoons which has led to the soil becoming alkaline. This has resulted in a unique environment for plants and animals. Reclamation schemes are now being developed which aim to preserve and enhance this special landscape and promote its recreational use.

Road Directions

You can start your walk and park your car at the Lion Salt Works, Ollershaw Lane, Marston, Northwich, CW9 6ES or at the Anderton Boat Lift, Lift Lane, Anderton, Northwich, CW96FW.
